first oil change?
first oil change?
How many here would recc 1st oil change at 2500miles (for a 450 or a 550) ? I'm informed that it is recommended for amgs but not for other MBs.. and as we all know, 1st is at 10K miles..
however I'm seriously considering it just cuz these are biturbos, its a louder engine and in case there is any small engine flakes etc then those would get drained out earlier rather than later..
I'm thinking most of those who would consider it, or do it are those who bought their cars, I dont think anyone who leased it will do it..
Any thoughts, suggestions?

I bought my 2012 GL350 in April of 2012 and at 5,000 miles I couldn't stand it any longer and had the oil changed at my MB dealership for $99.00. I'm old school when back in the days a new car had an oil change at it's first 1,000 miles and every 3,000 after that. However, with the new technology MB suggests the oil be changed every 10,000 miles but at $99.00 I bought myself some piece of mind. I don't think the first oil change should be before 5,000 because of lubricants which are added to the oil at the factory or so I'm told .
i'm pretty old school too- and i'm perfectly ok with the 10k service schedule- just wanna be safe with first oil change- the lubricant part makes sense, to wait till 5k miles- i havnt been told that but does make sense..
lets see what others have to say..

I've always been told most of the oil breakdown is from burning and MB uses oil pumps to circulate the oil through the vehicle after the car is off. This is why it can go so much longer than others. I'll wait until 10,000 miles or something else takes me in.

Going to wait for 10k on ours. I did a 5k on a 2009 ML as I just didn't feel right waiting 10k on a brand new diesel engine. However since then I somehow have relaxed more...

More important than an early change on a new MB ( any new car for that matter): after the first 100 miles or so, open the hood and check the oil level! Many of us don't do that anymore, but the oil alert system does not alert you until it is getting seriously low..... I prefer to know long before that. With the original 07's, there were some guys having oil consumption issues early on..... never hurts to open that hood and get acquainted! That being said, my 2012 never used a drop of oil!

Please understand the GL is shipped from the factory with special formulated "break in oil" - and that top off or full replacement is done with full spec oil.
I think the tip to check oil on delivery, and to check during break-in are very good - however I would wait for the full 10K before doing the change out - but thats just me.
Keep the beat !

thats exactly what i wanted to know and was confused by- the 'break in period' oil mixture thats used- i definitely would not want to drain that prematurely-- makes more sense to wait 10k and check oil periodically....
