Cornering lights?

Pg. 127 of the manual talks about the "conering light function"......does not speak of it as an "option" or as a "country specific", etc. Yet....i dont see it happening on my vehicle?? Is this like the "heated/cooled" upholders?? .... in the manual but not really on the vehicle? Anybody know.....

I have this on my CLS63 and as soon as you start to turn left or right you will notice it slightly light the path. Not a night and day difference but nice feature. I assume it should be the same on GL and I believe it does require the lighting package that you mentioned you have.

you have it than, start the car during night time while facing a wall, you will see the lights move up and down and left to right.

according to MB USA:

Lighting Package
Bi-Xenon headlamps with Active Curve Illumination:
Bi-Xenon headlamps help deliver greater visibility than halogen headlamps because their brighter, whiter light is much closer to natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination helps you see better into corners at night, swiveling the headlamps as you steer to increase usable illumination by up to 90% over conventional fixed headlamps.

Yes... BUT: pg 127 talks about a "cornering function" that activates when you activate the turn signal lever ..... this is separate from the "active curve illumination" and the manual says, "the cornering light may stay on for a brief period of time after completing the turn" The manual also shows a picture with very definite illumination of the area you are turning into.

turn on the car at night facing a wall, put it into gear, foot on the brake and press the turn signal and than turn the wheel.

A gaggle of MB's
That "particular" cornering lamp function is EU only - for active curve on what it does and doesn't do "speed dependent" kind of thing the manual gives a good overview.

Thanks Fab..... I figured you would have the answer! Actually too bad we can't have the "cornering function " here in the US....... have had version of that on some pre MB vehicles and it is nice to light up the area to your right or left BEFORE you turn into it.

My experience is the same. On my 2007 I had true fog lamps and it would light the fog lamp on the side of the turn. It was noticeable and effective lighting. That was in addition to the headlamp turning feature of active curve illumination.

My 2013 has the same active curve illumination that I'm familiar with, but there isn't the side illumination feature.

Yep....my 07 had the same lights! The 11 did not..... I was sort of hoping they had put something like that back into the mix.

This is what the cornering light function looks like in action based on my ML63 (ROW spec/Non US).

Yep.... thats what I had on my 2007 GL.....just wish the MB manuals were a little more accurate.....In many cases the manual does say "optional equip" etc. but in the case of the "cornering function" it reads as if ALL GL's are equipped with the system....no mention of Euro only.

2006 ML350 and 2013 GL350
I have the lighting package on my 06 ML350 and on my 13 GL350. The ML350 has a very noticeable light that comes on when you start to corner. The GL350 doesn't have this (or at least it's not noticeable). However, I find that the lighting package on the GL350 does a very good job at illuminating the same area that special corner light my ML350 lights up, in fact even better.
