GL raising/lowering height while in traffic

I was in traffic this morning and using the hold function a lot. While at a standstill, I noticed the hood of the car clearly being lowered. No messages were seen in the display.

A few minutes later, while again stopped with the hold function, the car raised itself back to what I believe was the original height.

Any idea why this happened? I have the off road package, but was in comfort mode the whole time.

i notice the same thing-- airmatic is adaptive regardless of comfort or sport- in sport it lowers and stays low and adjusts accordingly- in comfort it adapts and adjusts more- lowers when going faster and higher when not- the hold and stop height seem to be lower for easier exit/entry into the car- and height raises when driving on city roads (not freeway)
my 2cents on how this works..

.....plus, it is constantly "balancing the load" based on the degree of "level" on the road and the effect of braking ( pushing the nose forward ). My previous GL's all did this as well.

Interesting. I understand these explanations, but it just surprised me that the height adjustments were occuring while the car was at rest, essentially in a vacuum relative to performance and road conditions.

Thanks for the responses.
