Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 272 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class vehicles, including the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG, because of defective seatbelt anchor bolts.
The recall also includes the Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTec, GL450 4Matic and GL550 4Matic.
The recall is expected to begin sometime in May.
WASHINGTON — Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 272 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class vehicles, including the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG, because of defective seatbelt anchor bolts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall also includes the Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTec, GL450 4Matic and GL550 4Matic.
"The second-row seatbelt anchor fitting bolts may not be properly torqued," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the bolts are not properly torqued, the seatbelt anchor bolts may continue to loosen and in the event of a crash, the belted occupant may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury."
Parent Daimler said that one vehicle with improper tightening torque at one seatbelt anchor fitting of the second-row seat had been discovered in the course of pre-delivery checks as part of the plant quality process.
The affected vehicles were manufactured from May 15, 2012 through October 4, 2012.
Mercedes-Benz dealers will tighten the bolts of the seatbelt anchor fittings.
The recall is expected to begin sometime in May. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
