Brake rotors
#51
yea like I mentioned earlier same thing happened with me.. MBUSA called me and I told then this was a safety concern and NOT a complaint-- and due to presence of vibration and my dealer verfying and confirming rear rotors were badly warped - MBUSA immediately called my service manager and approved rears.. I spoke with the NJ MBUSA corporate office

2015 GL550, 2019 GLC350e
My turn...picked up GL450 new on 7/21/13. Started having the brake vibration around 2K miles 3 weeks ago. Thought it was the way I was driving so tried different braking styles but same results after 10-15 mins of driving.
Tapping on the brakes above 40mph, the whole vehicle would shake like crazy.
Having dealer check on it next week.

Just dropped my 2013 GL450 off for 10K service and told them that I was experiencing the same vibrations on the highway. They are very aware of the problem with these brakes and said they were now routinely replacing all 4 rotors and pads with the updated parts. It may take 3 days though to obtain new parts. At least they acknowledged the issue and are replacing them for free.

W166 warped rotor issue
My 2013 ML550 with drilled rotors developed a severe shake when braking at highway speeds...enough to knock drinks out of the cupholder! Anyway, took it in, they did have a service bulliten on it...replaced both front rotors and pads under warranty.

I know somewhere in a thread this was brought up, but can't find it.
Anyway bad vibrations under braking on our GL450 recently. Took it in and indeed it needed new brake rotors (and pads). After only 5,000 miles!
Anyway, service said this was a known issue recently and the replacement rotors are new design / materials. Chalk it up to new model year.

Service said that it was a pad problem so this time they replaced both pads and rotors - so it won't be an issue again. Only problem is they replaced pads and brakes last time!
Kind of annoyed they wouldn't do the rears.

Replacements seem to have worked.
So mine were replaced 1 year ago now after a SEVERE shaking problem, and no recurring issues. Apparently the redesigned pads and rotors did the trick.

I hope so - but wouldn't hold my breath. Ours started shaking severely again just about 1.5 years after the first set were replaced. Although I could feel them going in that direction for a few months before that.
