DIY: Key Battery Replacement

I was driving today and noticed that my dash informed me to replace the battery in my key.

Materials: New battery (CR2025 3v) and small blade.

Here are the directions:

Step 1. Pull the grey lever to the right and pull out the L shaped key.

Step 2.

Step 3. Turn the key to the back side and insert the Key into the left side.
This will press out the back key cover.

Step 4. Take a blade and pull out the battery.

Step 5. Install the new battery and replace the cover. Then reinsert the key.

Yup....that's how ya do it! Funny... the manual says "you may want to contact your dealer to have this one" or something like that!

A gaggle of MB's
The Mercedes CR2025 is made in Indonesia, I would replace with Japanese made CR2025 like Maxell - easily purchased from Amazon.. 4-5 shelf life so plan ahead. Replacement video on YouTube

Mine indicated low battery today, replaced following these instructions, very easy. The cr2025 batteries seem easy to find.

I hope members will read this - with Leyless Go, if one key Fob sets off Low Battery warning - the 2nd key Fob, even unused, will not be that far behind.

Yes - Keyless Go drain on the key Fob batteries can be daunting - with 6 to 9 month replacement common.

HOWEVER the key Fob drain problem is ACCENTUATED by the fact MB has been using for some time using CR2025 lithium batteries made in Indonesia/China - yes, those Indonesia/China batteries are made by legitimate brand button battery companies.

HOWEVER you can easily DOUBLE the life of your replacement batteries by SWITCHING TO Maxell brand CR2025's made in Maxell's Japanese battery factory. Note there are Maxell's also made in Indonesia/China.

Multiple Ebay or Amazon sellers can deliver five Maxell Japan CR2025 batteries to your door by US mail for under $3, for example ebay listing:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-pc-MAXELL-CR2025-CR-2025-3v-Lithium-Battery-New-Japan-/231095024449?pt=US_Single_Use_Batteries&hash=item35ce563b41
Personally. I get in 100 pcs of Maxell directly from Japan once a month - and I give my customer a fresh "pair" of replacement batteries to keep in their owner's manual binder - since shelf life of CR2025's is easily 4 years.

Thanks for the advice. I would have never thought to keep batteries on hand.

Thanks for the refresher on this. Have done it before, but forgot how to do it. So simple but you can't figure it out without some help!

Replaced the first one just like this, the batteries came 2 to the pack, but I was out of town with the GL when they indicator came on. Came home and mixed up the keys before I replaced the 2nd one, but within a month the other one started to warn me and replaced it. So like it's been said, when one goes the other is not far behind.
