Without a CarFax, or knowing the "dealer" you are buying from - let me be clear:
1) A pre-owned GL350 with 10K miles sold by a Mercedes dealer would be Mercedes Certified - a MB dealer will ALWAYS have a CarFax available to you in either case.
2) A "specialty dealer" who is independent and not a Mercedes dealer or franchised dealer of any brand - "might" verbally misrepresent a "buy back" (ie lemon buy back) from Mercedes as a "demo" car". This typwe of dealer will try to wrap you up without presenting a CarFax to you.
3) a franchised dealer of another brand (people do change their mind and brand) would also have a CarFax available to you.
It's situation #2 - in it's various forms - is the real slippery slope - if a $10K off GL350 has changed states - especially if it has changed across total 3 states - THST is very-very suspect from a non-MB or non-brand dealer - since a specialty dealer could be moving the car quickly across states to hide intensive damge reapir and/or buyback.
