Rear Entertainment System

For owners with the Rear Entertainment system, do you know if the third-row passengers will be able to use the wireless headphones?

We are currently debating if we should install the MB system or go for an after market system, preferably installed on the ceiling.

I'm not sure about the wireless headphones, but we also debated the issue and decided against the MB system. Neither of us liked the look of it, plus we've stopped buying DVD's. With Bluray and digital movies, the technology is outdated. We are going to use the 8.9" Kindle Fire HDX along with a mount (GripDaddy v2arm) that someone on this forum suggested. It looks very easy to take on and off, and we will only use it for longer trips. We have a nice library of digital movie tiles so will never have to worry about bringing piles of DVD's. Plus, the new Kindle HDX will allow you to download the free Prime titles for offline viewing.

I'm only going to get one screen which will mount in the center (so 3rd row can see) but you could get multiple units and mount behind the headrests for still less money than the factory setup. The kids will probably use a wired headphone splitter or I'll buy a wireless transmitter & headphone kit for them. Or most likely they will skip headphones and my husband and I will listen to music with our headphones. I think someone on this forum mentioned an ipad mount that had wireless transmission built in.

I might have considered the factory screens (and just plugged the Kindle or Ipad into them) if they looked more built-in (like the Infiniti design) or the color matched (the screens are black on the brown seats), but then you'd still have to worry about where to secure the device that you're using.

Yes - passengers in all three rows can use the wireless headphones. Works pretty well.

Good to know it works from the 3rd row. Any issues with being able to have a clear view from the 3rd row, especially for the little ones?

My 8 year old and 5 year old said they could see the opposite screens from the third row when they were in their booster seats at the dealership.

Just had the system installed today. Can someone confirm if I should have two or just one remote.

Also, does anyone know if I can just purchase a third headphone off eBay and if will work without dealer programming?

Ours came with 2 remotes. We typically only use 1...but guess it's nice to have the 2nd one if your kids want to watch 2 different movies and they know how to work the remotes.

I thought the system comes with 2 remotes but the service dept insist it only comes with one. Either they are pulling my leg or the system comes with 2 with part of the build and not post delivery.

Mine also has 2 remotes.

P..S. Just wanted to make sure and went to my car to check. It actually has 1 remote. Apologize for the wrong info.

Factory installed, comes with two (2) remotes and two (2) wireless headsets that have yet to work. There is one DVD Player in the back between the two seats and for the second one you have to use the front CD/DVD Player. Weird arrangement IMO.
