Heads-Up - Brake Pad Replacement

I have a 2013 GL63 with roughly 3,000 miles on it. About 3-4 weeks ago I noticed that the car was starting to make a loud pitched squeaking noise while coming to a full stop (front drivers side tire). The closest MB dealership is a bit of a drive so I brought it to my local brake place (which I trust) to see if there was something pressing which would require a service appointment for warranty work. They said that everything was safe but that they called Mercedes and was told that this is a known issue and the solution is to replace all four brake pads. Now I'm not sure if its for all GL63's or all GL's in 2013 but as I type this the GL63 is sitting at Mercedes awaiting the delivery and installation of four new brake pads. Thought I would give everyone a heads-up on the "known issue".

That is interesting. I have had on 3 occasions where I have come to a stop (and this is only 50 feet or so from my house) but that I have heard a high pitch squeal when I stopped. I didn't know if the brakes were a little wet or something? But it was when the car had just started for the day. Was very strange. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with replacing all the pads.

I also have had 2 instances where I had to really slam hard on my breaks for fear of hitting the person in front of me. One on the interstate with some traffic and just the other day. Both times there was like a hard grip/grind and noise when I breached and almost made the car sort of skid but not really. My husband said it was the antilock brakes but I have never had anti locks do that on my old cars. No clue. Have heard several people complain about the rotors warping but nothing about pads. I have a 2014 350 so who knows.

Front brakes were replaced - obviously covered under warranty. No more squeaking - problem solved. If you have heard it a few times already I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your service advisor as it gets much worse very quickly.

That was Adaptive Brake Assist. It's normal.

I also have that problem with my GL63 especially when its real cold. The first few miles in a cold morning it will squeal. Once there warm-up it goes away ...I got my car in August and in the summer month there was no problem.. Its a 2014 with 5500 miles

Did they replaced pads and rotor?
