I beleive it is a true statement., I will never run any of my cars through a touchless, if you notice, it will leave a sort of film on the car, it never is really clean, stay away is my honest opinion. You are far better off on taking the vehicle to a dedicated car wash or detailing company, it will save your paint and the rubber/plastic trim.

Especially if you have running boards - car wash chemcials can cause stains - from the aspect of the clear coat - soft water is OK - but again with running boards chemicals can be a problem.

I dont take it to touch less or the ones with the brushes which have more dirt than a cambodian hooker. In winter I take it to a $2 self serve car wash and spray the salt off pointing the nozzle at least 20 inches away from the car, doesent get rid of the dirt but the salt comes off.

self serve or a known really really good touchless-- i really dont like the touch-washes- man do they swirl the paint up..
but in m opinion; regardless of the wash its the wipe thats the most important- gotta wipe it down after the wash- gets that thin film and all the harsh stuff off..
so yes; best option- your own driveway, a hose and a really good shampoo and yes alot of clean good quality cloths.... for the winter i agree; $2 self serve hose down get all the salt off and then wipe it down in your garage (if your hands and fingers arent frozen)

On running boards - avoid spray-wash/hand-wash chemicals of any kind - flush with clean water after cleaning thoroughly.
