Can you restrict how high liftgate opens?
Hello,
We are considering a 2014 GL450 for our next car. One concern we have is our low garage ceiling, the car fits but we would be unable to fully open the liftgate. Is it possible to set a height restriction when opening it? Our salesman said you used to be able on older models to but no longer can. I just want to verify this as I can see it being frustrating if the tailgate accidentally opens and gets scratched up by hitting the garage.
Thanks!!

2014 GL450
I could not find anything in the manual about restricting the liftgate height.
The liftgate bumps up against the open garage door and then moves back down. I taped some padding on the garage door where the lifgate hits.

Here's the trick: open the liftgate, be prepared to the push the red open close button at the point you want the liftgate to stop at, push the button and the gate stops at that height …NOW: gently hold the liftgate in that desired position and press and HOLD the red open/close button until you hear two beeps…..the max height is now set at the point you want it!

This is a nice feature in the GL. Opening the liftgate to the fully open position would crash it into our overhead door. This feature prevents that from happening. Just follow blittle's directions, very simple to program.

you can configure it to stop at pretty much any height, its in the manual and as described above.
Your salesman is wrong and generally speaking the sales rep know little to nothing about what they sell IMHO, 2013 and 2014 models have this feature.

Look at Page 92 and 93 ( 2014 GL Manual) link below
You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate. This is possible in the top half of its
opening range, up to approximately 4 in (10 cm) before the stop. This could be useful, for example, if there is insufficient space above the tailgate.
To open the tailgate: pull the handle on the tailgate.
To stop the opening procedure at the desired position: press the closing button in the tailgate or pull the handle on the outside of the tailgate again.
To store the position: press and hold the closing button in the tailgate until you hear
a short tone. The opening angle limiter is activated. The tailgate will now stop in the stored position when opening.
Deactivating
Press and hold the closing button in the tailgate until you hear two short tones.

I'm doing it within 4 inches of highest point.
Also tried to hold it in to deactivate it, but no two tones either.
Anyway have appt with service dept tomorrow.
This morning my 360 camera was stuck in the open position and all black screen.
Parked it for the day at work, and came out and the camera was closed, so it must
have reset itself, since now camera functionality is working again.
