Severe winter weather conditions have forced Hyundai, Honda and Mercedes-Benz to stop production at their Alabama auto assembly plants.
Hyundai said production at its Montgomery plant is scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. Wednesday, unless the weather requires additional changes to the production schedule. Day shift employees were sent home at 11 a.m. today.
At Honda's Talladega County plant, operations were suspended as of 11:30 a.m. today, and first shift workers were sent home. Today's second and third shifts also have been cancelled.
The Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa County also has suspended operations and cancelled production until mid-morning Wednesday.
The central and southern parts of the state are being socked with a wintry mix that is prompting closings and creating a mess on roadways. Read the latest on the weather and closings.
Updated at 1:32 p.m. to reflect the latest closing plans.
