She is at the VPC!

Well it's hopefully only a matter of days (not weeks) until I am truly a bona fide member of the GL Class X166 brotherhood. I can't wait. I love cars, and driving them, and it is an all too infrequent pleasure to buy a new one. I usually keep my daily driver for about 5-6 years, and my fun car for about 8-10. At 62 years of age I think I am at the end of the road for the fun stuff and I might keep this GL a longer time than usual. Retirement planning is a sobering *****! I can't really complain though. Our fun car is a speed yellow 997.2 cabriolet, standard transmission of course, and as long as I am able to shift it, I plan to keep it forever. If I keep the GL for 8 years I can't even begin to imagine what I might buy at age 70, hopefully retired, and on a fixed income. Maybe a hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle will be commonplace by then, who knows what other technologies might be available as well. Crazy stuff, huh?

PS, when previewing my post I see I am not allowed to cuss and my sobering ***** was asterisked out. hahahaha, too funny

Welcome to the brotherhood Todd!
I'll give you another 35 years before you can't shift. You may need an automatic after that!
Mb world forums have a user agreement you have had to agree in order to become a member that includes avoiding use of expletives and personal attacks, accusations, etc. I am not sure if you may compromise your membership even if the auto block thing delets the profanity. You might want to research that.
Cheers and keep us posted.

Thanks for the heads up, my "expletive" was only a common name for a female canine. I surely meant no offense and I won't cross that line again. I am not usually crude but this retirement thing is especially, emphatically, intrusive and hugely detrimental to my spending dreams!

Todd, PA- having been riffed by a PA corporation-and having prepared somewhat for the inevitable, one of the first things I did was order a GL550 -about $107.7k. Was it get even-not sure, but it is a really great car, replacing a Land Cruiser-which will run forever. You have a 997.2, I have a 2005 997s Cab-997.1. Wonderful car-and that was my midlife crisis car after my firm went through an LBO.

It all works out-life goes on-and if one can afford-as you stated a 997.2 and a new GL, life is particularly good and not much to complain about.

Be well

No…there is no way you or the dealer can track it from this point forward…they will know when it has been "released to the carrier" but that's it…..it won't be too much longer for you guys! Welcome aboard…..

Hahaha, at first glance i was wondering if you wanted to take your GL to the track! I'll bet well driven, on a short track like Summit Point or Lime Rock, it would be quite competitive. At PCA and MB Club events it's mostly driver skill that determines how quick one gets around, especially in the lower run groups. I've seen stock VW Golfs be better driven and achieve quicker lap times than Audi RS4s and Porsche 911s. Tons of fun too.

My dealer has notified me that the status of my GL as of Monday says "released to carrier"
I was hoping for an end of this week delivery but the dealer thinks next week.
Does anybody know how much time it usually takes for the dealer prep?
Does the truck come almost ready to deliver or is there a bunch of work to do?
TIA
Todd

My GL was released a couple weeks ago on Mon and arrived to dealer Thurs. I picked it up at 11am on Fri. I don't think the dealer did much other than clean it up.

About a day's worth of "work"….getting it all spiffy for you, they also check the fluids and few other things that might need a quick look based upon "known" pre delivery issues. But the bulk of it is the deltail guys making it look showroom nice!!

Thanks for the reply, but was it 4 days later to get to your dealer or a week and 4 days?
Congrats by the way!

Thanks, I did check out other cars at the dealer waiting for delivery and the detail guys did a nice job, no swirls!

Double check…..or ask them to: tire pressure; sometimes they come through over-inflated, coolant level…sometimes is a tad low and can cause "check coolant level" msgs! Also…. your sales rep SHOULD do a complete setup of "driver options" with you OR you can read the manual and do it yourself…..there are a LOT of vehicle options that can be "set" by the driver. I enjoyed doing it myself, but that's not everyone's "cup of tea!" Sort of like setting up your computer as to how you want it to look, act, etc.

Thanks for those tips blittle, I will do so. I am a bit like you in the fact that I'd rather read the manual and set the car up on my own. Quite frankly, I find most of the salespeople in auto dealerships usually have less product knowledge than I do after I have done my research. This forum has been invaluable, thanks to all!
A case in point, my dealer was unaware that there were a few options to correct the child seat/EZ entry complications. When I mentioned them, I was told they had many customers to contact who would be thrilled they could now get a child seat to fit properly. The dealership didn't have a clue. One salesman told me that I would be the first one ever to order the multi contour seat in a GL 350 and he would take my picture! After our test drive in a GL 550 where they are standard, (I knew it but he didn't) we liked them a lot, good for tall drivers, and placed them on our order list. I have already read the owner's manual and the command manual cover to cover. It's nice that MB has made them available on the web for download.
I can't wait.

I had a feeling that my GL should have been delivered to the dealer by today so on a hunch I drove over on the motorcycle. Lo and behold, look what I saw in the parking lot.

EDIT..... I tried inserting a pic from imgur but no go, I don't know why.
Sorry, she is here though!
