advice please.
advice please.
Hi All,
Just want to ask some opinion on the second gen GL please. I currently have a 2012 GL(first gen) and have some quality issue with it. Most of them are minor issues like weather strip seals replacement cause leakage or door handle replacement due to paint peel off. The only major issue was the steering rack replacement at 9k miles. But my concern is the ride is only 1.5 years old and had less than 10k miles on it. Should this be happening as a MB? Be honest, I really love the look and handling of this car and debating if I should part exchange it for a more expensive second gen GL350 in case I am just bad luck and got a lemon. Could anyone advice me on the build quality of the second gen please? What I feel about my current car is as the following:
1. great drive and look.
2. awesome engine.
3. interior great
4. ok equipment.
The only problem is the quality of parts, i.e. steering rack gone less than 10k. and the man-craft. big gaps on the window seals etc...
Could anyone tell me the quality and man-craft on the second gen please?
Thanks.

I too had a 2012 GL450, and I also was very displeased with the vehicle. The ride quality, interior sound, fit and finish, squeaks and rattles were very unpleasant, and I had made my mind not to get another GL. However, the new GL I was thoroughly impressed with and that was the only reason why I got the second GL.
Regarding lemon, if the problem is reoccurring, and is attempted by the dealer to be fixed yet does not seem to resolve it then you do have a lemon. Otherwise, it won't 'qualify' as a lemon.

The X166 is a much nicer vehicle than the X164. I had a first year model of both (2007 and 2013). Failures happen with any vehicle, and having more equipment to fail will burden the GL more than lessor vehicles. But I've been happy with the quality of mine.
OK, seem my version of lemon wasn't accurate after all. However, I have to say I got the feeling of my friend who owns a land rover disco 4 now. He loves his car every time he drives it, hate it to the hell every time to the dealer for repairs. I really loves my GL if it can stay away from the garage. I guess I will give X166 a try. Can I also ask how the ride quality like in X166. I am looking the 350 Desiel version. Thanks.
FWIW, here's what Consumer Reports had to say about the X166 GL350 with 19" wheels and the stock suspension:
"Ride comfort: The GL is not only the best riding SUV we've ever tested, its ride is among the best of any vehicle period. It swallows up bumps and ruts with very muted impacts. Low-speed road imperfections and uneven surfaces result in minimal body motion, with just a slow and gradual lateral sway. The highway ride is very smooth, with a serene, steady and composed cruise."
