I agree this is most likely what a refresh would bring. I hate the non-integrated display. If you didn't want to integrate it, why not use some of the new screen share technology and let us dock a tablet there?

MB GLS550/BMW 550/2017 Acura NSX
I'm all for a new revamped and upgraded interior. As that, to me, is the current designs biggest shortcoming.
If MB is gonna rename the the GL, the GLS, then they better give it an interior that is worthy of calling it an "S class".
I don't mind the "iPad" screen sitting on top of the dash. Having it up like that will make it easier to glance and see necessary info quickly. That sounds safer to me. And the big the screen, the better.
I'm curious how the redesign/facelift/new version will come out. It better be a true SUV version of the S class or I will probably have the BMW X7 in my garage.

While it is good looking, the new Audi Q7 looks more like a station wagon than a SUV. But IMO the new dash is kind of boring.

The 2016 mid-cycle refresh will only include some minor exterior changes and an update infotainment system. But I expect the next full refresh (2018/2019) may surprise us with a major redesign.

When you say, an update infotainment system, would that be the entire command system with the new IPad like screen the other MBs have?

Regular MB cycle for any model is 7 years. GL started in 2006 as 2007 model. Next generation started in 2012 as 2013 model. So I think the next model will be introduced in 2019 as 2020 model.

My thoughts exactly. I've said this before but I've owned a number of nice cars and SUV's through the years but have never received so many compliments as I do for our GL550. Just this evening at dinner a young man came over to us as we were exiting the GL and said "what a great looking ride". That has happened many times. I didn't buy it to impress others but it is nice that other people see what I see, a very nice looking SUV.

These are fresh images, did a quick google check on them. Nice scoop, this is the first time that we see the rear will also be updated.
New headlights and taillights for sure.
I can also see the new updated command system in one of the shots.

450 and 400 are different by the amount of HP. You can consider 450 as a ECU-up-Tuned version of 400.
We will have the V6 bi-tubro that has 362 HP for GLS450 next year.

Just took my 2013 450 in for the 40K service yesterday......they gave me an ML with the V6 biturbo as a loaner.......after 3 GL's with V8's , I do not understand how anybody used to that feel and sound is going to be happy with a V6 in a vehicle that big.....note that I said "is used to" , because i'm sure if your are not "used to it" , it probably won't make much difference. But at 65 mph i was at 2200 rpm on the ML....on my GL V8 , that would be about 1800 rpm. Just for the heck of it .... I asked them, so....the GL is the "S class" of SUV's ....are you putting a V6 in the S class???? there was a lot of "well, uhmmmmm....." Privately....my tech friend told me there are a lot of "unhappy" folks out there.....

"Paying a little too much attention on the engine", what?
The 4.7 Liter V8 is the only engine option in the S-class (in the USA), the same basic engine blittle has now and happens to like. He's simply stating his opinion. When you plunk down $80k on a vehicle you get pay attention to whatever you like and it's your own opinion that matters.
I prefer the 550 to the 450 so for me the V8 will still be available. I also prefer a V8 to a V6 for a vehicle this large. Too bad MB didn't at least offer an optional V8 engine choice for 450 buyers who represent the largest share of GL (GLS) market.
