2 Zone/3-Zone cabin air filter count, retro-fit?

Having searched this form and a few others, I'm not finding definitive information on the cabin filters that are in my 2-zone A/C systems. It seems certain there is one that is accessed from the engine compartment, but it looks like some vehicles (those with a 3-zone system) also have two additional filters behind the glove box. Am I right so far?

My question is whether or not my 2-zone system has the additional filters in the cabin AND whether or not it has the housing for such filters. If I have just the one filter, is it possible for me to add the additional filters to my system?

I actually don't mind having just 2 zones, but on a recent trip, it seemed to take some time for the system to filter-out the paper-smells and other odors that we encounter along our route. At least compared to our other vehicles.

My first post, so forgive me if I've missed the obvious thread that addresses this question.

There's 3 filters... The one you see form the engine compartment is called the dust filter and the other 2 beyond the dust filter are called combination filters aka cabin filters...

Pro-tip: keep your system on inside air (recycle mode) as much as possible while in highly polluted areas like interstates. Studies show breathing this PM2.5 particle pollution is baaaad. The one annoyance on the 3-zone system is the "mist sensor" that thinks it's smarter than me, and keeps flipping the system back to outside air any time things get a little humid in the car. Very annoying in winter with it flipping back to outside air every 5 min.

The converse of this is make sure to flip it back to outside air before shutting the car down in the summer so the system can air out and less chance of the mold problem.

Thanks for the responses. Definitely will keep it on recycle on the highway. Have the mold issue in my E90 BMW, it's a real PIA.

The Edmunds site makes things a little confusing where it describes the 3-zone option for the 2014 model. It seems to imply that the charcoal filters are an add-on that comes with the option, but it could be saying that the option adds controls for the filter.? They state:

"3-zone climate control with a humidity sensor, a dust/pollen filter, and an activated charcoal filter that can be adjusted from control panels in the dash and in the second row."

evansw220, I think you are saying we all get the "cabin filters" regardless of whether or not we have a 2-zone or a 3-zone system.
