Maybach GL Coming Soon?
A Maybach SUV could be coming very soon, according to rumors spurred on by Mercedes Benz boss, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, while at the Detroit auto show.

How much more can they really do? more high end leather interior? more super audio system? an even more extended cab with pilot seating in all rows? carry over S class tech? like, magic body control? super super charged engine like 800hp?
If it isn't fully autonomous, I'm not spending more than a GL63 for it as there is really no need to enhance an already exceptional car.

The interior of the current GL is good but it is not at the same level of refinement as the new S-Class. Nor is the H.K. sound system as a good as the Burmester sound system found in the C and S. So IMO there is room for improvement on the current interior.
As for a possible Maybach edition, that could also mean a longer wheel base so the second row occupant could have a reclining seat similar to the S-Maybach edition. There is a clientele for such a vehicle or MB wouldn't even consider it.

I was speaking more to the need for improvement in the interior of the current GL. The mid-cycle refresh will not be a complete redo of the materials and systems. But the next full redesign (2019 ?) could see interior upgrades that bring the GLS closer to the interior of the S-Class. I would expect a fully digital dash by that time.
A Maybach edition would be for a very specific clientele.

2015 GL550 2013 ESV Platinum 2008 Hummer H2 LE UM
A longer wheelbase GL would really nice and work great with the ESV I have. Prefer more trunk space and don't have to fold the 3rd row.
The Maybach is nice, but I still love my 2015 GL550. Love it more than the 2012 GL550.

I'm happy with my 2014 GL550 but some things that I would change or improve:
1. Increase the leg room for the second row (may require a slightly longer wheelbase)
2. Go with a fully digital dash similar to the S-class, the NAV screen should be larger
3. Include an interactive HUD that displays real-time navigation and collision avoidance
4. Improve the overall interior finishes and offer the black satin wood available in the new C-class
That should keep MB busy for a while. ;-)
