I have not done it but I would think that its slightly easier than taking it out. I dont know why you'd ever have to do it though... it is a design flow.

2017 GLS - different headrest pins

I removed the leather from headrest and found a screw to remove headrest. I then found 2 pins with(springs) metal clips.
Do I need to remove both pins or does this fix not work with this model?

or does this fix not work with this model?

The OP was GL. Has anyone “pulled pin(s)” on GLS?

7 years after the first great post people, like me, are still doing this. I’ll post some additional photos I took while doing this and the most important pro-tip: once done you can pull up the headrest to about 75% and then the retract springs keep it in place right against the seat so there is no gap and even more comfortable than fully extended and locked:

First,‘let’s start with why people with children need to do this fix and shame on Mercedes:

Ideal tools you’ll need; Flathead screwdriver, hammer and punch.

Start by inserting flathead into spot where the 2 plastic ends meet. They point upwards and are butted against each other. Once Roy find the right spot lever the flathead up so you apply leverage down and presto, 5 seconds of work has them easily undone.

Once you get them unclipped you need to start slipping the leather over the corners and over the top to expose where the bolt is:

The bolt you need to hammer out from the back of headrest:

The same bolt from the front:

for hammering it out I found it easier to fold the seat forward using the manual lever on the back of the chair:

Hope this helps the next generation.

Yes it still works but you have to remove the 2 pins on the sides instead of just the 1 in the middle. Sorry just now spotted this as the thread has been resurrected. My 2015 had 2 pins per side similar to your picture.

And yes it is a shame that they didn’t think of how bothersome the headrests would be to younger passengers.

Thank you!!

I was just sitting here, in my third row about to give this a go and finding this post again and since I read it a few months back you posted this. Thank you!!! The older models have totally different headrests. Were you able to get the leather back together after? Thanks! Nicole
