In da club! Proud owner of 2014 GL550
Hi folks, just wanted in share my excitement in joining the GL family. Just took delivery of a 2014 "executive" GL550 with 9950 miles. The vehicle was in pristine condition. So far I love it.
Here's a mediocre picture.
One thing I regret is not getting the liners (see weather) and not taking a picture at the dealership when it was shiny and clean!!

I got an MB roof rack and lightening connection multi-media cable on EBay, rear floor liner and winter floor mats from Weathertech. I also opted for extended MB warranty, but shopped around via the extended warranties forum here, as my dealer was unwilling to negotiate.

Thanks! I must admit it is beautiful! :-)
@LIRS6 I am thinking of the Thule AeroBlade for a lower profile look (and maybe less noise and drag). Did you look at those? As for the lightening cable, is it different than the one that comes with the car? I have a single USB/lightening cable, but it doesn't do anything more than power my iPhone. Just ordered the full Weathertech digital liner for all 3 rows - cant come soon enough. Finally, I have CPO +2 years and unlimited miles. I'll be covered till 2021!

That is one nice machine. That color has grown on me. I think this may be the color I get. I'm waiting on the GLS450. I've seen very few colored options on the road, mostly black or white which are nice too don't get me wrong however, when I see a clean grey or other colors it just blows my mind how nice the GL is.

@LIRS6 I see. I will have to play around more with the cable. thx
@jerome I really like the lighter colors on the 550 and darker on the 450. I guess steel grey is in between :-)
@Dalema I have heated steering, heated second row, RES, chrome, pano, and trailer hitch. Wish there was ACS but I'll settle since it's the wife's car :-). Can't pass up a great deal to join the club!

i did not look at the Thule, and now that I have the MB unit mounted I do notice wind noise, but I rarely use it so not a big issue for me. The lightening connects in the center arm rest cubby and replaces the stock unit that was for iPhone 4 or older type. If you have a 5 or 6, and you get the lightening cable, you will be able to play music via it.
You would be better off playing music or any audio from your iPhone via Bluetooth Audio. I'm assuming you can do this with the GL? I do this with my E-Class.

I got the Thule Aeroblades and returned them the next day. They were VERY noisy. like an annoying whistle which got louder with speed. Got the Yakima Whispbars instead. Yakima is way more superior than thule in both quality and design and most importantly they are QUIET! Used them this past week on a 200 mile plus trip with a thule Alpine box on top. Very happy with the performance and look. You wont be able to open the sun roof with either the Yakima or the Thule aeroblades since they are very low profile.
After looking at @tfinan's setup I decided to order the whispbar. I also ordered the Sonic XL box which all will arrive next week. I will post some pics when I get it set up.
There's an end of month 20% off at autoanything.com btw!

Happy
So it's been a month since I've had the new car. Very impressed with the quality and ride. The passing power of this beast is amazing.
I received the Whispbar and thule sonic XL and everything fit as I expected. Installed with ease and not one complaint. I've been skiing twice (both 200+ mile trips) and the box was barely noticeable, noise and mpg wise.

Thanks amigos! No regrets at all. I was also getting 18+ MPGs during my 2 trips 90/10 highway/backroads.
@ioman I can't open the roof the way the bars are positioned today. I don't mind this inconvenience though.
