gl 350 vs 450 new vs. certified

Hi All,
New to the Mercedes world, and trying to do some initial GL research. Using a combination of the Mercedes website, edmunds.com and kbb.com I've priced out both new GL350 or Gl450's and buying 2013 certified versions.

For the new comparison with the exact same packages/options the 450 is about $1500 more comparing MSRPs. The edmunds true price has the 450 $2,500 more. In rough actual numbers my edmunds true price is $68.5k for the 350 and $71k for the 450.

When I do the 2013 certified comparison - pricing a 2013 gl350 or 450 with 30,000 miles and again the exact same options, kbb now says the 350 is almost $8,000 more? In actual numbers the 350 is $59k and the 450 is $51k. That's close to a $10,000 relative difference, and implies that the 350 has barely depreciated in 3 years?
Hard to exactly line up exactly comparable vehicles on mypreownedmercedes.com but overall the 450's do seem to be listed for less than the 350's.

I know that the 2013 450 had an 8 cylinder engine vs. the 2015 now has a turbo 6, and I believe the 350 engine is the same in both years. But that can't be the only explanation for the big gap I'm getting? And why does it seem like the 350's depreciation is so low.

Happy to list the actual options/vehicle details of what I'm pricing out, but I don't think that's the issue. Thanks so much, and I apologize if this has been asked before, if you could just lead me to a prior thread.

A gaggle of MB's
Please understand - the better 3rd party resource for pre-owned pricing is edmunds.com.

For pre-owned - your best research is based on what specific vehicle that shows available to you - and as you have found - for the GL-Series there is a wide range of individual options which leads to a wide range of original-MSRP/preowned-value depending on those options.

I am not responsible for a "gap" - since again, options play a important part.

Diesel owner's like to say "diesels hold their value" better than gassers - however that is not necessarily a hard+fast rule.

Have fun with it - keep the beat !

Just a thought....

Back in 2013, in the Chicago area, people had to sign some sort of waiver to buy a diesel due to all the corn we put in our fuel. The ethanol gummed up the system. This made me not want to buy a diesel. While I can't speak for the rest of the country, maybe the are less 2013 GL350's available accounting for the price gap. Maybe it is as simple a supply and demand explanation.

Just a thought!
