Parking assist question
My GL came with the self park system, I love it, but I was wondering If there was some way I could use it to backup into a normal parking space like at a supermarket lot, not parallel parking. Since I've seen american cars do both perpendicular and parallel parking.

Active Parking Assist only works for parallel parking spaces. The GL manual states the following:
Use Active Parking Assist for parking spaces:
- that are parallel to the direction of travel
- that are on straight roads, not bends
- that are on the same level as the road, e.g. not on the pavement

Go to page 234 of the online version of the GL manual for the section on parking:

While in reverse select from the icons at the top of the display to get the most useful view of the parking space, e.g., looking at the rear tires or the front tires or the rear bumper, etc. You will be able to watch your tires, the lines on the ground, if there are curbs or other obstacles and surrounding vehicles. Slowly back into the space while switching views with the COMAND controller knob. Just remember that you have to be rolling before turning the steering wheel will have any effect.
I use this technique to back into the garage while keeping it centered on the Traxtile floor and maintaining clearance front and rear for the garage door to close and the rear hatch to open:

Personally ... I wouldn't trust an automatic system to park my car as the consequences of a mistake are too high. The visual aids provided by the 360º System are useful and intuitive, plus the driver has complete control.

I agree with SaniDel. I have the 360 camera on my BMW from back in 2012 - when i got it, i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Then, over the next 3-4 years, everyone is rolling it out in their cars, and MB one-upped BMW IMO as showing the anticipated direction/locaiton of the car/tires is awesome.
