Trailer lights blinking

I have a 2014 GL350 with factory towing package. When the trailer is connected via the 7-pin connector and the ignition is off with all lights on the GL turned out and the smartkey not in/near the vehicle, the trailer lights (LEDs) nonetheless blink randomly but frequently.

This problem occurs with two different trailers I own. Why is that happening and what can I do about it?

Interesting - "sounds like" the CanBus ion sleep mode is doing a circuit sweep.

If you don't have a harness connector/adapter with the built-in added resistor - about $14-$16 - you could try that to see if that added resistance/load changes the behavior...

I get the resistor part, but I have a 7 pin connector. Why would I want to use a 7 pin to 5 pin adapter?

2013 GL350. BMW 335. 2014R1200RTW

Had the same problem with my GL towing an Airstream. This will make it clearer. Just put one of these on the wires leading to tail and blinkers and you're done.
