Extended Warranty
And for those that say do a search, I have but only ended up more confused. Any help, comments or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Perhaps a way of answering your question is to ask another question ... what could you do now? It seems the answer is ... nothing as you certainly wouldn't purchase an extended warranty now ... why "buy suspenders" if you already have a belt?
Shopping for the best extended warranty for after the original warranty expires is something you can safely postpone. Whatever they cost now will be irrelevant when you are ready to purchase then.
That said - whether extending the Mercedes new car warranty - or extending the Mercedes Certified Warranty - you are free to purchase the respective warranty from whatever dealer you choose - and with either the extended new car warranty - or extended certified warranty - frankly is the most comprehensive warranty coverage you can purchase for your Mercedes.
Refundable from Mercedes if you trade or sell before hitting the "extended" warranty - takes about 6 weeks to process and get refund...
Hope this helps - I am not trying to persuade you one way or another...
Keep the beat !
Purchasing an extended warranty while the original warranty is in effect adds nothing, but costs plenty. A lot can change during the time the original warranty is in effect ... the vehicle could get wrecked or stolen or the owner may simply want a newer vehicle. Why buy an extended warranty for the future since we can't know the future?
Shop for an extended warranty during the last month or the last thousand miles of coverage of the original warranty. It will still cost plenty, but will be paid for in the future. If the vehicle is sold/traded/stolen/wrecked, etc. while the extended warranty is in effect the unused portion of the extended warranty gets refunded.

"Longer term" - each year, normally around Sept time frame - Mercedes HQ reviews new and CPO warranty retail price and dealer cost - and it is not uncommon for warranty retail and cost to go up - or more appropriately I have not seen warranty prices go down - I have seen them stay even and/or go up.
On the subject of "unused extended warranty" - if a extended warranty - new or CPO - is canceled (by choice, or by early sale/trade) before the "original" new car or "original" CPO warranty expires - and the warranty has been fully or partially paid - yes, there is 100% refund of that paid amount from MB - if there is a outstanding loan at time of cancellation the refund is sent to the note holder - if the loan is paid, or will be paid by trade-in - then that 100% paid refund goes to the owner - refund process takes about 5-6 weeks once the cancellation is filed.
If the "original" new/CPO warranty has expired - and you have gone into the actual extended warranty - then the refund is 1st "pro-rated" - by time or miles whichever has more impact - that gives the "pro-rated" amount - then any claims paid on that extended warranty are subtracted from the pro-rated amount - that gives the final refund (if any).
I have a good number of customer's who choose to added extended warranty at time of purchase - if fo no other reason to "park cash" for later - in the case of MB Financial often extended warranties can be done "interest free" as a add-on to the monthly payment
Extended warranties are a good discussion exercise for the forum - since I don't get involved in soliciting warranty business for my guys - I try to give the most accurate info and customer experience from my side
We found that the extended warranty and pre-paid maintenance were negotiable. When we expressed reservation, we were offered a significant discount based on what we were told were year-end incentives. Knowing this, you could shop around with dealers to see who can give you the best deal.
I kept my last vehicle for 12 years, and we plan to keep this one for a while. The opportunity for a refund if we change our mind does not have us feeling like we're locked into something.
