Tire shop refusing to install tires on GL450
2013 GL450 with stock size 275/50R20
Stock Tire:
275/50R20 pirelli scorpion verde all season
Tire I wanted it as the new replacements:
285/50R20 pirelli scorpion verde all season plus
The tire shop said Mercedes told them not to install any size other than exactly what was on there. Said the car would not be safe.
Argh....
The 275 size are about 1/3rd more expensive and a lesser tire.
Anyone else have issues with the slight size variant?

This is BS. My old 2011 GL350 - I used 285 tires, traded in the car and MB put it as CPO with my 285 non run flat tires and sold it in 10 days. My current car 2015 GL350 - just installed 20" AMG rims with 285/50/20 tires. No rubbing, no issues whatsoever, my dealer said it's approved for any kind of warranty repair (if needed).

. . . AND they got tired of the younger set buying giant tires, then coming back demanding to exchange them because they rubbed.
This is good practice for the average consumer, but it works against the informed enthusiast. That's why I choose my tires after consulting a knowledgeable tire consultant (TireRack, etc.), have them shipped to a trusted installer, and have my installer do the work.

Just buy the tires online and take them to some mom&pop tire shop. $25/tire for mounting and balancing is the going rate. Buying tires and installing them is not exactly rocket science folks. The media and marketing folks have a pretty good grip on sheep people. This is coming from someone who worked at a tire shop growing up.

S550, and GL450
The 2015 GL I just bought had 6700 miles on a set of the 275's. I switched my 285's from my 3013 GL, and noticed no difference in the ride quality. The 285's had just over 4000 miles on them.
