Whose bought a leftover model well under invoice?
I'm pretty savvy when it comes to car buying, both leasing and financing. Admittedly, I ordered all but one of my lease cars which greatly impacts negotiations. I have never once seriously considered several cars from different dealers. So I have never played the "best deal wins" game.
For those of you who have, I have a question.......
How do you get a great deal on an MB that the dealer is motivated and/or incentivized to sell?
I'm looking at a 2016 GL that just arrived at my local dealer this week. And the GLSs will be in any day. If this particular GL is still there a month or 2 from now, how can you buy one under invoice? Do you have to pitch a number at them below invoice? Do you agree to buy it for a certain amount under invoice? (perhaps the form of the offer is irrelevant). I have heard from mercedes customers who have bought E classes for $2500 under invoice. S class owners who got over $12k off sticker - under certain circumstances. Is there trunk money from Mercedes to move certain models? If so, is there anywhere on the web to get information on that? I used to buy BMWs for $500.00 over invoice, but never below. I have heard of some very impressive deals on MBs.
I'd love to hear some explanations from those who got their cars for under invoice.
Thanks for any feedback.
Regards,
David

Why not look at a Tesla Model X? I got my 2013 GL450 CPO, so I did not spend $70k+ But if I was looking purchase an SUV with that amount of money, I would've been after a Model X instead of a GL.
Just wanted to see why/anyone would not consider a Model X, unless you need a car now rather than end of year or next year when it is available.
Thanks.
Personally, If I'm in the market to buy a GL 450 and my dealer has a new GLS and a 16' GL and they are apples to apples on options but the 16' is $7,500 less due to discounts & sub invoice pricing then accounting trumps passion for the new model in my book. I'd get the 16'. I think with the AMG cars, the logic may be different if you're chosing between the prior model an current model. (Although a friend of mine just bought an E63 and has no idea the new E is about to arrive). With the AMG its not a purchase based on financial prudence. So what I'm driving at it is - the 16' GL63 may be a hard sell at present. If its still there in a month or two, perhaps it would be a good candidate for a sweetheart deal?
I didn't get 1 penny off my CPO 450. I didn't even ask...I'm due a credit LOL!
Thanks for the feedback

Truecar says the average price paid for the GL63 is $113,000.00 without the new model having just been released...
I think 12-15% off msrp would be a steal.

...and I've still never seen a Tesla with out of state plates. I'm taking a 3000 mile round trip vacation in our GL in May. I drive 1000 miles the first day up through Wyoming and into western Montana. Try and do that with a Tesla.

However, plan on taking it to Quebec for a holiday.
after seeing a review of the model x on youtube, the trunk is small and frankly, i like buttons. i think touchscreen will pull your eyes off the road.
I love our Gl450. it's power is insane and it is quiet.
My 2014 GL63 has active curve. Now being "exposed" to active curve, I won't buy another GL without it, it's simply that good. Even my wife noticed and loves active curve.
I was on the Model X reservation list, but cancelled as the rollout was so slow and arduous. I was sold by the end of the Model S test drive. I like the touchscreen a lot, and obviously they are crazy quick. Charging at home is nice, too. There are a couple holes in the supercharger network, but the coverage was shaping up to be acceptable. Roof storage, necessary when kid number three arrives, is less than ideal. Elon proposed a suction roof rack that prevents one falcon door from opening. I wasn't a fan of the new grill either.
My wife's car won't seat three in the back and she wants something small, so at this point it will likely be a Model 3 or GLC when the time comes.
I love my 2014 GL63. It's a keeper for sure.
