2013 GL350 X166 only rear inner pad worn out

My local dealer performed a 40K service (included brake inspection and brake fluid flush) and reported that 70% of pads left for both front and rear. 1 month later, a brake pad warning came on. I looked at all pads that they had a lot of life left like 70% the dealer reported. Finally, I took out passenger rear wheel and inspected and found out the inner pad was almost gone and the sensor started to peel.

I notified the dealer that the mechanic failed the inspect properly. I had a follow-up appointment and the dealer lubricated those sliding pins and put new pads for free.

When I took the wheel out, I remember that the inner side of rotor had a slight lip developing. I wonder if the rotors should have been replaced too.

Dealers are so eager to replace BOTH pads and rotors all the time, but not when things have to be free.

Should I be concerned for anything? If rear/driver pins weren't stuck, then I probably have two rear rotors with different thicknesses.

As reported, my local dealer replaced rear pads for free. However my wife and I still noticed a significant reduction on MPG.

Today, while car was running in neutral, I lifted each wheel and spun. Front ones spun well without any noise. But the rear one was making some sort of rubbing noise and barely spun 1/2 - 1 rotation. This seems like pistons are sticking.

Any thought?

My local dealer says having that drag on rear wheels is "normal" and showed me other cars. I am bit puzzled.

The right rear brake is automatically applied by the traction control to limit wheelspin and to act as an electronic limited slip differential.

Unfortunately, this is perfectly normal. I recommend ordering a set of DGC1630 brake pads from Autozone (less than half the cost of MB pads) and considering it a high wear consumable.

On the bright side, the traction control works well

grumpywings,

I am NOT even talking about uneven wear.

There is drag while gear is in neutral. Rear brake pads (only) do not completely release. It makes no sense to me. Imagine you are riding a bicycle with brakes are touching wheels all the time.
