Parking Assist

So the blue square P shows up but I have only been able to get the white triangle to show up once. I have driven along good parking spaces trying both head on and parallel...what is the secret? I have watched videos on how to do it. I backed it into this space that it wouldn't use...this space seems plenty big.

GL can only do parallel parking. And from my experience, you will have to drive pass almost half of the car in order to let GL find a space behind the car

And the empty spot needs to be pretty big, a rarity in New York City.

It also only searches the passenger side unless you put the left turn signal on.

From what the guy who gave me my delivery walk through demonstrated, it will only park in reverse in a perpendicular spot. You have to drive past a spot on your right before the arrow will sense it, then put it in reverse. As previous poster mentioned, to search on the left, you must put your blinker on (haven't tried it, but guessing you must also pass the spot for it to get a read on it).

Yes...this is what I was told. I just can't get it to see the spots. I backed the car into the spot to show what a generous sized spot with clear markings. I must be getting the steps in the wrong order.

You need to pass the open parking spot with your blinker on, then the arrow will show up. Select reverse. Click OK on the menus and your ready. Mine works awesome, my favorite feature, and gets you into tight spots perfectly.

A gaggle of MB's
It's semi-intelligent

For 2017 Parking Pilot - for perpendicular (backing into) and parallel - the system is what I term "semi-intelligent" - and there are certain pre-conditions can confuse/overwhelm it's limited brain.

A quick page lifted from the Owner's Manual is attached
