Is it possible to change the 2nd and 3rd row headrests

I have a 2016 GL 450 and a 2016 GLC 300. I love both cars and very happy with them, except one thing that keeps bothering me. The headrests on the GL450 are nothing short of atrocious. They are so uncomfortable, my wife, who usually sits in the back with the baby when we drive my car is pushing me to buy another GLC, which has infinitely better headrests on the second row.

Is there any way to change the headrests of the 2nd and 3rd row? I understand they need to drop down when the seat is collapsing but even a fixed headrest of 5-6 inches would be better than the current spring-based headrests. To be clear, the concern is not that you need to pull them up every time you use the second row, but the fact that you just can't rest your head on a headrest that keeps going backward. Who in his infinite wisdom came up with these headrests.

Moderator: I posted it first in the wrong forum (X164), apologies for double post.

I did manage to pull out the 3rd row headrest in one of the seats to accommodate a child seat. So I know it can be taken out. You may be able to install one from another model that has the same hole spacing/pattern. You can try swapping from the GLC to see if it fits and then buy matching headrests upon successful testing.

Thx for the info. Yeah, I was able to pull it out, but I'm wondering, since the car has Easy-Entry, what will happen to the headrest when I engage the easy entry system. I don't want to damage anything obviously. WOuld be awesome to hear if someone successfully changed the headrests on a GL450.

"since the car has Easy-Entry" - if you had done a forum search on this forum regarding Easy-Entry - this has been a well discussed topic since the intro of the X166 2013 model year ..

You should do a forum search for updated info - it is possible to disconnect the 2nd row EZ Entry system - best done by the dealer - you can even remove them all together - and if you wish cost-out or begin searching eBay to replace with non-EZ-Entry headrests which are a entirely different design but will fit..
