GL350 AMG-Sport OEM Upgrade
IMHO, if you don't already have a GL350, especially now, with the exchange rate, it might just be cheaper to look into purchasing a Canadian GL350 with the AMG Sport package, and import back to the US. From what I understand you can still transfer the warranty and since its an American built vehicle with no safety feature modifications, the import process is much easier as far as importing goes, I think someone has made a thread about this too.
Here are my costs:
$3500 Paint & Labor to refinish/install front/rear bumpers & 4 fender wideners
$1250 Used OEM Frt GL550 FULL AMG Bumper assy. w/Chrome lower valance
$1000 New OEM Factory blem Rr GL350 FULL AMG-Sport Bumper assy. w/o tips
$ 800 Used OEM Fender Wideners (from 3 different vendors)
$6600 Total cost.
Even if cost is no option, getting all the OEM AMG parts takes an inordinate amount of time. When I enquired about Fender Wideners was told it would take 90 days, though they do come pre-painted, and delays depend the stock available in certain colors. I sourced mine used, but it's was difficult to locate all four, from one location. Front AMG bumpers take off/factor rejects can be found on eBay for $2100 +/-. and the same seller (who also posts on here in parts) has rear AMG bumpers also. Because I didn't non functional exhaust tips, nor did I want to add a custom exhaust, I opted for the GL350 Sport bumper, as it doesn't have the exhaust tips like the GL550/63 have. So, one would either have to find a GL350 Sport bumper, nearly impossible in the states, or check on Ebay, but usually it's a 550/63 bumper with tips. They are priced around $1500-1800 +/-, but you'd have to purchase the lower chrome sport non-tip valance separate from MBZ.
Good Luck!
