My COMAND NTG 4.5 head unit navigation malfunctioned last month, which Mercedes restored by swapping the head unit (with same part #). However, since then my RES remotes stopped talking to the head unit (the remotes still work fine with the rear screens)

Mercedes has identified the issue after two weeks of research at Germany, that in Gen 3 of NTG 4.5 Mercedes removed the infrared sensor and thus the remotes won't control the newly manufactured head units anymore.

It is hard for me to understand this, especially when it is the same part #. I am not willing to compromise on functionality that pre-existed when the vehicle was manufactured and Mercedes can't withdraw it as and when they want. I believe the terms of warranty require the manufacturer to bring the vehicle back to its original (functional) status. Mercedes charges tonnes of premium for the comforts and luxuries, and can then remove them from our vehicle as and when they choose to!!

Any thoughts on how to get Mercedes to honor the warranty terms on this? Vehicle still under factory warranty.

That sounds like BS to me. They need to find an older Headunit with the feature in acceptable condition.

How do you know its a Gen 3 and what part number do you have? Did you ever get the dealer to fix it?
