2008 GL 320cdi Electrical problems: Help please
I own a 2008 GL 320cdi. Problems first started about two years ago with the instrument not "waking-up" when unlocking the vehicle or opening the door. Over the last two years it started happening more and more frequently and now it happens several times a day, it's very seldom that it's not doing it. So the symptoms are: Instrument cluster not "waking-up", when this happens, there's a red battery warning showing on the display when switching the ignition on, starting and driving the vehicle, at the same time the indicator light and fuel guage doesn't funtion. By locking/unlocking and opening/closing the doors, the problem sometimes disappear and everything returns to normal and functions 100%.
Some other intermittent problems: Boot lid sometimes not auto closing/opening, pdc beep when pressing the brake pedal, rear camera not functioning (permanent malfunction), battery sometimes runs down if the vehicle not used for 2-3 days, sometimes not (it's a new Varta battery). I have MB Star Diagnostics, but no luck yet finding the problem. I suspected the Rear Sam, had it visually inspected, but no visible water or other damage. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Out Of Control!!
While I am waiting another two years, I would start saving for a good diagnostic scan. Then wait another two years to implement the findings.
By then the car will be 13 years old and a good export potential to Iran!

Thanks Plutoe, good advise. You should consider exporting your 1999 E300 to Iran, but then I don't think even Iran would want an 18 year old car. Lol!

The car has two batteries, the main one is for starting and lights and the small one is for all other electrical including instruments, both batteries are under the passenger seat, the small one gets overlooked. The symptoms you describe sounds to me as though the small battery has failed....
