After watching my child struggle to get out of the GL in contrast to him easily being able to egress from my W164 (has running boards), I've decided to purchase a set for the GL. Are the $200/$300 versions on Ebay just as good as OEM? They look the same.

I have a '14 ML350 and a GL450, both CPO's. As far as I am concerned the OEM boards on both are unadulterated crap. Both cars are about 3 years on the road. The ML350 lived its entire life in Georgetown, TX, and the GL in Palm Springs, CA. The aluminum on both is spotted and discolored. No chemical agent or polish or cleaner of any kind has made a dent in the spots. I can make them go away with spray stainless steel cleaner for a while but then that wears off and back come the spots. Sorry for the rant. As far as I am concerned, the eBay ones can't be any worse. When I have a few bucks lying around I will buy a set off eBay to replace this junk. BTW when we were shopping for the ML, a dealer said OEM's could be added for $1k.......yeah....

Certainly the dealer wont get $1k from me. My W164's have a tiny bit of the rust you mentioned so I understand.

There are vids on youtube covering the removal and installation. Doesn't look too difficult. I think there are how to's on this site as well.
