Jacking the car and using jack points for jack stands
Hi all,
I saw only 3 threads on jacking up the truck but none of them address my concern.
I just got a 3 TON jack from Harbor Freight. I want to jack up the car and still use jack stands at the jack points that are designed for the truck. However, when I lift the truck using the jack, there is no room to put the jack. Is there another place i can use to lift up the truck, say somewhere in the front center so that i can put the jack there?
there's plastic paneling so i can't find a cross member.
Thanks.

wheel subframe
Here is a photo of the bottom control arm - probably the thickest metal component connecting to the wheel and it looks like it is made out of aluminum. Now where do I put the jack, under point x or point y? Point X would mean the jack would be completely under the control arm. For Point Y, I think there is some subframe the control arm is connected to via a big bolt.
Thanks.

any update on front or real center jack points? mine is 2015 ML 350. I came from BMW forum, there are tons of posts about this, not many here. Wonder why?
Thanks

There is an exposed part of the front subframe crossmember that is not covered by the splash shield. It is directly in the center of the vehicle, between the control arm attach points...metal beam with a hole or two in it. I have used this point with a 3-ton jack to raise the entire front of the GL to place stands under both front jack points at the same time. It does take a minute to get it jacked up from there since the jack has to go pretty far under the car, reducing the amount of travel you have to pump the handle, but it works.

Has anyone tried raising the car with Airmatic, placing the jack stands and then retracting the wheels effectively raising the car onto the jack stands?
This used to be a recommended way to remove the wheels on air suspension Citroens back in the day, and I've seen a few videos on Youtube people doing it with Airmatic sedans.

Wow! I hope this works but I'm thinking that SUV sized stands may be too tall to work but surely passenger car sized stands will work perfectly (may not be rated for the weight of the GL).

While, in theory, it seems like it would work, I don't believe that the suspension will actually "retract" as the airmatic system will just lower the pressure in the struts and not create a vacuum situation. In essence, the suspension even droops to its most extended position when jacking the car from the "sport" (lowest) setting. However, I typically do use the airmatic raising feature before jacking up the car to give a head start on the height so I don't have to pump it up those extra few inches in the beginning.

Interesting point, @GettingThere
If only I could figure out the jack points on this car, I could do the same.
