Disassemble Running Board - Help

I have seen the video clip on how to remove the whole running board. It doesn't seem to difficult. Has anyone disassemble the running board and/or replace part of it?

#7 - Step Plate

I need to replace the step plate (refer to image). I'm thinking of replacing just that instead of getting the whole running board.

Id like to know this too, the silver step plates are very contaminated and scratched on mine after the winter period, so thinking remove to refinish rather than replace.

A gaggle of MB's
It's not uncommon for the silver paint finsh on the "step plate" to get discolored from "drive thru car wash detergent" where thr rinse doesn't get all the detergent off the plate leading to staining - and I have also seen salty/dirty snow also cause discoloration - happens less and less on newer model SUV's.

On my side - my MB Certified Collision Center disassemble the running board - pop out the rubber bumper things - and repaint in silver using wheel paint with top coat - I have had some customers also get powder coated ..

Sir, thank you!
I just spoke to one of the mechanics at local Mercedes, he said the same thing; that is to pop out the rubber bumper (#8 in the picture - Step Plate Clip). He also said that you will most likely break the rubber bumper and the washer (#9 in the picture - Step Lock Nut) in the process of disassembling it.

Keep us posted please on ease of disassembly/reassembly process - I need to replace part #10 - "Support". Wondering how difficult it is to remove all of the components.

TIA

I ended up took mine in and let the dealer replace it for me. They charged 1 hour labor for $150.
To replace #10, you need to remove the whole running board. These youtube video clips might help:

Hope this helps!

Thanks, after viewing vids I decided to give it a go, as the quote from the dealer was a whopping $1350. Bought the main support #10 on line for $486 shipped, and replaced it this morning - took a good two hours, but well worth the time and effort.

Btw, I suspect that the support cracked when someone tried to jack the vehicle up from underneath the running board (I am the 2nd owner).
