First GL!
My wife and I bought a 2015 GL450 this last month. It is our first GL and we are very excited. It has 35k miles and about a year of the original warranty left. We also had our first run in with the MB dealer here in Bellevue, WA as they wanted to charge us $350 to 'provision' the car as it was still registered in the previous owners name and I could not activate mBrace. Finally they did the right thing, and did the work for free (this seemed like a classic case of MB wanting you to pay them to 'fix' something so you can sign up for a service that will give them more money :-).
Anyway, it has begun! :-)

Nice Hope you enjoy it. Have to always monitor what the dealer do. Alot of people never question something if it considered normal maintenance. I normally review the required maintenance and then ala carte what I want them to do. I can check my own windshield wipers, tire rotation at lower price and things like that. I don't own a GL but have a 2015 ML 350. From reading on this site , one of the complaints of GL is tire mileage, Hopefully yours has new tires on it because about 35,000 is all they last. Good luck

Get the warranty.
Dont fool yourself.
It will be a lifesaver and will cover your shocks struts and air bags that will go bad.
+ many more things that I could mention 😬

I did not do that when I purchased the vehicle (I did not buy it from a Mercedes dealer). They offered me some kind of a third party warranty to cover the car till 100k miles but everything I read pointed to those having a lot of 'gotcha' clauses in there to avoid paying out. I am assuming that MB will try to sell me something when i go in for the last service before the warranty expires? Any advice here appreciated (like what people have and how much they paid for it).

Lol. Mercedes will happily wave you goodbye at your last in warranty service and happily start charging you when something needs to be fixed.
These two are highly recommended in the forums

BLACK 2014 ML550 / WHITE 2014 ML63
I have used The Warranty Group on my 2010 GL 450 and 2011 GL 550. On the 450, they've allowed repair of both rear air suspension. On the 550, they've allowed repair on several items, including the thermostat. I just pay my deductible and drive a loaner until the job is done

Call Jaime Ruis - he is an official MB finance manager that can get you a legit factory MB ELW.
If you plan on keeping it, I'd buy the longest ELW possible, and also buy the pre-paid maintenance. I've come out way ahead on both.
Jaime has the best pricing and best customer service.

Congrats on your new ride!
For a 3rd party extended warranty company stay away from Endurance. I have the top tear coverage and have too may "Exclusions"... Shocks are not covered. I found out that hard way.
However, they did cover the time chain tensioner service for the loud rattle upon startup. That "fix" was over $1600.00 at local MB dealership.
