2015 GL450

Duplicate Key - 2015 GL450

I need a duplicate smart key for my 2015 GL450. Dealer quoted almost $700. Are there other options? I can't seem to find anything on the internet that can provide a smark key and program it.

You must go through a dealer to get a new smart key. The quoted price is way high. Shop around to different dealers in your area. I believe you can find them for around $400....perhaps a touch more. You may have to jump through some hoops to get one....such as bringing it to the dealer with proof of ownership.

I'd like to know if I have options. Most European locksmiths I contacted said that 2015 and newer GL key's can't be programmed outside of a dealership.

I spoke to a few European locksmiths that had good pricing for GL keys for pre-2015 models. They cannot program 2015 and newer keys, I am told.

All MB smart keys going back to at least the mid 2000's have to be ordered through the dealership with proof of ownership. I doubt that any locksmith would be able to get you a key, even pre-2015.

$700 seems way high. I am also currently shopping around for a spare key for my 2013 GL450 and I got price quotes from 3 different MB dealers here in the Seattle area. $330, $304, and $264. I called up the dealer who quoted the lowest and i was told that i need to bring the car to the dealership and provide proof of ownership, to order the spare key. My key looks exactly like the picture below. The dealer will program the key fob and cut the metal key. I was also told that only MB dealers can program this type of key.
