Battery

When have people ended up replacing their battery? I'm at 5 years, haven't had any issues but am wondering if I should just replace it to be safe. What have others done?

Yes I have. Just replaced it couple months ago to be safe. 5 years and haven't had a problem.

The initial batteries in my old S600 lasted 9 years before they needed replacement. There really isn't a point of doing this preemptively unless you just like spending money. But when you do replace the batteries, get them from Walmart or another low cost retailer. You can get the same AGM batteries that you'd get from the dealer for half the price. It just won't have the Benz logo on it.

I just did it for preventive maintenance and last time I purchased an aftermarket battery (i.e. costco, sams, on our Mercedes E550), lots of errors started popping up and it was diagnosed to the battery. Stick to genuine if you can.

Umm.....nope. You can get the identical battery as OEM at the lower priced retailers. If you got errors, then you probably got the wrong kind of battery or made a mistake when swapping it out. I believe our main battery is an H8 AGM. My AutoZone AGM battery (IIRC, it was a Duracell brand) worked absolutely perfectly in my S600.....which has a lot more complicated electronics and computers than the E550.
