Buzzing noise from engine + rich exhaust smell 2016 GL450
Hello all,
I've noticed something strange on my 2016 GL450 over the past few days. Firstly, there is a strong buzzing noise coming from the engine bay. Secondly, the exhaust smells strongly of gasoline. I'm not terribly familiar with the 3.0 turbo V6, nor do I know much about the GL450 as a whole. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if so, could you offer me advice on what to do about it.

Although our GL550 is a V-8 and your GL450 is a V-6 they are somewhat similar ... both have dual turbochargers, both produce a lot of heat and both "go like stink" when goaded!
Our GL550 frequently spins electric fans, which sound like your "strong buzzing sound" coming from the engine bay. More often than not and especially in hot weather our GL550 has "worked up a sweat" by the time we back into our garage and the fans are running. Give it a few minutes to cool down out on the driveway and the fans stop.
Our GL550 "runs rich" especially when it starts and fills the garage with the aroma of raw gasoline. We have learned the hard way to get out of the garage ASAP after startup and never to allow it to idle in the garage ... even with the double door open.
If what we experience with our GL550 is similar to what you experience with your GL450 I have good news ... there's nothing to be done about it! Both vehicles will run hot when run hard, both will spin their fans to cool down ... and both will make your eyes water!
