Distance warning on GL350

Distance warning on GL350
Hi there, I'm new to MB. My 2014 GL350 doesn't seem to have Distronic plus package. However the Distance Warning option is enabled on my 2014 GL350. When engine starts it shows this symbol
OFF, for a few seconds. And the cruise control doesn't automatically slow down when approaching front vehicle. But I recall it worked before. It doesn't seem to give warning when getting very close to front vehicle. I think it's an issue with the distronic radar sensor? Thanks.

It's not a sensor issue - that part of the manual describes the function of Collision Prevention Assist - which is a emergency alert - and NOT Distronic function.
Under "normal" driving - you would tend NOT to set off Collision Prevention Assist - which is a beep/beep alert - it is NOT Distronic - it does NOT slow you down in Cruise Control - etc.
If the sensor was inoperative - the dash would give you a error message

Also, it happened at a few random times that there was no vehicle close in front but the triangle red alert came up in speedometer window, along with alarm sound.
If the Distance warning doesn't slow down in cruise driving, what does?
I'm getting more confused.

I'm not sure how you know it's without Distronic. I believe it has Distronic as it was able to automatically slow down or accelerate to just follow front car speed before. And that OFF symbol wasn't coming up before. All those issues started at the same time later on.

I just read your first sentence in your first post of this thread where you said you don’t have it.
Hopefully you have a windows sticker or data sheet with the installed options.
if not, put your VIN into this websoste:

Hmm. But I still wonder why this sign comes up every time engine starts. It should mean Distance/Collision warning is off, but it is set to Enabled.

always observed this light/symbol as collision avoidance and do not believe it correlates to distronic ... it's worked for me on many occasions (sometimes incorrectly) ... your front peripheral sensors are constantly active and sending out signals ... in the "normal" course of driving, the computer uses the sensors to analyze if something in front of the vehicle is "not" in the normal course of driving ... for instance, cruising at 45mph and it detects say for instance a car immediately in front is NOT cruising at comparable speed (say 15mph) and as the two vehicles narrows the gap, the audible and visual alert comes on ... and Boom ... I like it 95% of the time b/c it's accurate 5% of the time it miscalculates ... say a protruding branch into the road or a perpendicular car encroaching too much into your lane, waiting to make a turn after you pass ... :-)
