I used to get my fuel filters replaced for ~$370 or so but now, due to adaptations, that same service is now $600.
On my ML Bluetec, I was supposed to adapt my new DEF tank but never did. I had no problems with the tank since my adaptation-less install.

Have you done any searching on this? A quick look through Google results shows that a lot of the adaptation discussion is on air:fuel ratio correction and transmission shift mapping. Fuel filters generally do not affect air:fuel or shift maps. Ditto for the DEF tank. A DEF pump may be a different story. These are a general automotive comments, and if M-B vehicles are different in this respect, I have no information.
That's my point, adaptations for fuel filters? The ECU is so busy these days that it needs human interface?
