2014 gl550 cold start turbo spool
When I do a cold start on my 2014 gl550, i can hear a very specific turbo spool up that matches the engine rpm of the cold start, which sounds great but isn't the wastegate supposed to be open during a cold start?
My 2014 bmw 328i with a catless downpipe has a open wastegate during cold start and gives no turbo noise

Are you complaining about the turbo noise? Please report to the nearest NAPA and turn in your man card. They have a program available where you get $25 gift card to Bath & Body Works. We appreciate your honesty and integrity and, most of all, bravery for coming forward with this difficult and sensitive issue.
But, seriously, even if the wastegate is open, the turbo still spins. In fact, it spins the entire time it is running. If you want more turbo noise, get rid of any mufflers or resonators from the catalytic converters back. Sounds amazing. If you want less, get rid of the car and buy another Bimmer.
