2013 GL450 rattle on passenger side near turbo
My 2013 GL450 runs and drives amazing but when I do a cold start it's loud like there is an exhaust leak and there is a rattle sound.
The sound only last for a few seconds until the RMP's drop and then it's as quiet as a mouse. The sound never happens again under any other circumstance other than a cold start.
No smoke, no leaks, doesn't burn oil, no codes (or stored codes).
When you open the hood and look on the passenger side, about 6 inches behind the main body of the turbo appears to be the source of the sound. I can actually reach my hand down there and touch/move something that is metallic.
Based on how I'm able to wiggle it (millimetres at most), it seems to be the end of a possible butterfly hinge, like you would find on a throttle body. So my assumption is that it is supposed to have some degree of movement but not as much as it currently has.
Could it be the waste-gate? Anyone else had this issue?
Again. zero performance issues and it only happens for seconds on a cold start up.

There is an old TSB for these earlier 2013/14 model years for a chain tensioner noise on cold starts. I actually just had this rear its head on my 2014 GL450 for the first time (66k miles). Getting my car back tomorrow, hope the noise is fixed.

Thanks for that information but I think it's a different issue. The reason I say that is because on one of my cold starts I took a rod and pushed it against that loose metal hinge thingy behind the turbo (that I referenced up above) and the rattle stopped. There would be nothing I could do externally to stop a timing chain or tensioner from rattling.
