hose broke, can this be prevented?
Just realized I posted this on the wrong group... so reposting here. Is this the same problem as the current coolant thread?
'14 GL 550 with about 119k miles - ordered and bought new 10/2013. We have a MB warranty to 125k miles.
Just curious if anyone else has had this happen, and if I need to worry about all my hoses and fittings at its age. Is this is something that can be proactively inspected and remediated prior to failure?
Reliability is a big deal to me and this car has been that, a great experience. I had planned to gift to my daughter since resale value is next to nothing - IF & when my order for a 580 ever gets scheduled.
Coming home from a beach vacation, the engine light went on and then immediately after, the overheated light went on - luckily we could pull off quickly in a double sized safety lane. The car lost power.
No Dealers around were open on a Saturday late morning so ended up letting the car go on it's own vaca to a dealer for repair on Monday. We'll have to drive 6 hrs to bring it home. We were fortunate that it was a perfect day for sitting roadside waiting for tow and a family member was behind us with room in his Yukon XL for some belongings we didn't want to leave with the car and get us home.
The last pic is another hose that has been like that for a while and was surprised it wasn't fixed or mentioned my last service.

Welcome to the wonderful world of biodegradable plastics. That’ll be the first of many more to come. With that one you can easily replace with a brass fitting from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Agree with Gump. It’s par for the course, unfortunately, with Mercedes.
