Clunking sound solved

Or at least on my 2013 GL550. We had the clunking sound when driving over bums and imperfections on the road. It drove me crazy, thankfully it’s my wife car and I only drive it once or twice a week. We changed both front shocks (they were sagging over night), that didn’t help. We changed the sway bar end links, the bushings were torn and rusty, didn’t help much. I discovered that the driver side axle was slightly loose, I can grab the axle and wiggle it back and forth. Changed the axle, changed the front diff oil and the noise went away.
So look into your drive side axle and front diff oil if your GL is clunking down the road. While we were under the GL, we also found the transmission mount miss a chunk of metal, so that got changed too. Hopefully this gl will be good for another year or two because we still can’t find anything that can replace it.

Good tip!
Was there any other signs of damage besides the movement? My x166 also makes a similar noise and haven't noticed any obvious signs of wear with the suspension.
