2013 GL450 X166 cannot read transmission temperature

I just finished up the transmission change minus the torque converter and the scanner that I purchased Icarsoft I980 was supposed to show the transmission temperature but the TCM option was nowhere to be found. I ended up using the infrared thermometer method which I am not too confident in. The vehicle took around 30 minutes to get up to temperature from a cold stand still. Also, the torque converter was way hotter than the pan. I emailed iCarsoft and they said to use the MB V2.0 so low and behold I just received it and still there is no transmission option. The current scanner is running V11.60 software.

I am hoping someone can point me in the direction of a relatively inexpensive sub $200 scanner to show the transmission temperature or let me know what I am doing wrong with the iCarsoft scanner.

Thanks for your time and any help.

My issue has been solved. I updated the software to V11.7 which I don't think actually accomplished anything.

Instead of selecting X166 for the vehicle I chose X164 just to see if more options would come up and sure enough TCM was displayed and I was able to read the temperature of the transmission.

** Just FYI, I checked the pan with an infrared thermometer and it read 118 degrees F where as the scanner showed 130 degrees F. I am not sure how much of a difference this makes in the amount of fluid but I will update with my findings.

Hi,
I did run into the same issue recently with my MB II reader. There was no transmission function under the X166 and so I wrote to iCarsoft asking how to see the codes from the transmission.
The support team then told me the same thing: to look up transmission data under X164. I have not tried it yet, but really hope all functions will be there, otherwise their advertisement would be very misleading...

2013 Mercedes GL350 Bluetec (X166) & 2019 Mercedes A220 (W177) & Retired 2008 Mercedes C300 (W204)
Probably a late reply but I had the same issue as well, my work around was selecting the W166 (ML350) instead and it had the TCM to check the trans temp. Used the MB II reader for 2 - ML350's (W166 Diesel and Gas model), 1 - C300 (w204) and my GL350 (X166).

Yup, was a transmission changing kinda day.
