Auxiliary Battery
Does my 2013 GL450 have an Auxiliary battery in the right rear of the car, in the trunk?
If it does, what is the function of this battery? Does it get discharged like the Main battery and does the Alternator re-charge this battery?

Yes. I have a 2013 GL450 and I replaced my auxiliary battery last year, it's in the right rear of the trunk. I was having other electrical issues, and since mine was still the original battery I figured it was due for a change and to eliminate a possible source of electrical problems. It didn't fix my problem at the time, but changing the battery was fast and easy and relatively cheap, see the link below. I don't know all the purposes of it, or symptoms when it gets old and weak, but it is a backup for the main battery (I'm guessing not for starting, of course, it's too small). One thing I read is that it allows the electronic gear shift to still work if your main battery goes dead. If yours is original it's probably time to change it. I don't know how and when it's charged, I saw some general info online but I don't know how much is specific to the X166.
