2014 GL450
cell phone holder

Hi,

Is there a cell phone holder that can stay on the dashboard? I had a 2012 GL450, and just switched to a 2014 GL450 because the 2012 one was totaled. I have tried a couple of cell phone holders in the past in the 2021 one, but none will stay on the dash for long enough. We use cell phone for navigation quite often, so really want a good way to mount the cell phone.

Anyone have a recommendation based on your actual experience?

Thanks!

I have one that clips to a vent. Works great and stays put.

I have the magnet mount on mine. Attaches to the side of the center console and has a swivel head. Works very well and never falls off.

These are pretty sturdy but they disable the CD player. I used it for a tablet until I replaced the OEM screen with a bigger one. If you don't mind losing your cd slot, it should hold a phone like a champ:

I have a vent-mounted holder, I keep the phone in the closest vent to the right of the steering wheel. It stays fine, it has two clips on the back to grab the vent slats. It is very convenient in that position, it's only a couple inches from the steering wheel so I don't have to move my hand far at all. One problem is that it blocks the vent air, so A/C and heat to my face are reduced. It also heats and cools the phone, so you either pick up a hot phone or a ice-cold phone after a longer drive. But I don't like the mounts that are up on the dashboard, they block my view and are very inconvenient to reach to place the phone and retrieve it. Every phone mount is compromise, you have to make your own decisions about what is important to you. If you really want one on the dash, maybe use a strong suction cup on the windshield and a long mounting arm? I see those often being used by professional delivery drivers. Or, if your dash mount holder is falling off, screw it down! So it leaves a couple holes, it's not going to affect resale value much. A screw hole is easier to fix than glue damage. Anyway, a GL450 isn't a "future classic" garage queen show car that will one day be restored to concours standards. It's a utility vehicle. Drill some holes (but not too deep, lol).
