2014 GL450 needs possible engine replaced or timing chain
Hi all! I am a new MB owner. Just bought my GL450 in Nov. Last week it began making a ticking sound when I started it. Took it to my mechanic (not a MB specialist) and he thinks it needs a new engine. Quoted me upwards of 15k. He said even if it's timing chain, after labor I would be close to the cost of a new engine.
I knew these things were expensive to own, but never would have imagined this..especially after just purchasing. Bought it as is, so there's my first mistake.
Anyone delt with this issue? What was your cost?

2014 GL450, 1992 W140 300SD, 1993 W140 300SE, 1987 E30 Convertible
Wouldn't cost 15 grand to change chain. Find other mechanic also check if you have check valve installed on chain tensioners.
