Exclamation When a keyless go car will display 'do not forget your key'

Hi everyone. I have bought a car with keyless go system (W166 GL550). The listing indicates, that this car's key is lost. However, I see an image with the warning 'Don't Forget Your Key'. So the question is - is this warning only shown if the car sees the key inside it? Or this warning is displayed just for reference and is not connected to the actual key detection process? If anyone with keyless go system can check this on their car, that will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance and have a good day!

That message is displayed every time I open the driver's side door irrespective of whether I have my key on me or not.

Yep, if the start/stop button is in it’s place, it is almost impossible to forget the key in the car. At least you won’t be able to lock the doors.

You absolutely can. I field about one call a day from people who locked their keys in their car and want me to remotely unlock it.

that’ crazy. So the door handle lock will still work while the key is inside?

If the car doesn't recognize they key is inside. Most of the time I hear about it the key battery is usually near dead or in the door pocket.

I have left my key in the gl350 and it will not let me lock the doors, I touch the door handle indent and nothing happens and I start to think what is going on now and it takes me a few seconds to realize I left the key inside.

I would also venture that there maybe a key in there somewhere with that message coming up. I would scour the vehicle there are lots of little places it could be especially down between the console and front seats, it is extremely tight. I have dropped a couple of things down there and had a heck of a time getting them out.

yea that should be the correct behavior, so you are not able to lock and from that you remember to take the key with you.

I only received one fob with my vehicle when I bought it. I had the Salesperson where I bought the GL from reach out to the previous owners just incase they had found the second fob. All said and done cost close to $1000.00 (Canadian cash) for new fob. There is a far amount of stuff they do to program the fob and they also disable the fob that is missing because the fobs are vehicle specific but you need an extra just in case.
