2014 GL450 (x166) Control Arm Replacement

Hi Everyone,
Thank you in advance for any help.

I have a 2014 GL450 with off road package, the front suspension is making loud clunking noises. The Indy shop I like quoted several thousand dollars to replace the front upper and lower control arms. He said the axle needs to be pulled. And that the alignment afterwards can only be done with the STAR at the dealer.

I'm a little skeptical.

I can buy the Lemforder parts that match the part numbers the Indy gave me on the quote. I'll buy the whole control arms instead of pressing in new bushings. I can't find any guide or diy on the forums. I assume I will need to get the 1day pass to Startek and pull the WIS. I'm fine with that.

Has anyone done this? The Indy said because it has the off-road package it makes it much more complicated.

If someone gives me a little guidance, I will photo-document the repair and post it. This seems like a common repair on the X166.

Thank you.

This is written up on this site, replacing the arm assemblies is the WIS method. Not sure if WIS is posted on the site. Get a different mechanic, alignment is not rocket science, assuming of course the shop has an alignment rack.

Did you have to replace the lower and upper controls arms? My wife's GL450 has same issue and indy shop said front control arms need to be replaced. Was going to buy the Lemforder ones and have them put in. Do you have part numbers you could share?
